If you only have a couple of days on the Great Ocean Road with kids and are heading back to Melbourne, you are unlikely to get as far as Cape Bridgewater. Still, these activities are worth doing, and you might even get to see the whales from elsewhere on the Great Ocean Road. 22. Go whale watching.
The Cape Otway Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia. It is open from 9 am to 5 pm daily. Getting to the Great Ocean Road by public transport involves a train journey followed by a bus trip. Catch a V/Line train from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne to Geelong. Panmure Campground. Location: 13km north-east of Allansford. The Panmure Campground is a nice one to round off your Free Camping along the Great Ocean Road trip. It can be a noisy as its close to the highway, however you can enjoy flushing toilets, BBQs, a nearby river for swimming, grassy sites and a playground.
Ferry. The easiest way to travel to and from Phillip Island and Great Ocean Road is by ferry.
